Will AI Replace You and Take Your Job?

Artificial intelligence is causing unprecedented disruptions across society. While AI bubble warnings persist, the damage isn't hitting Nvidia, Broadcom, or Meta. It's devastating entire sectors and workers.

Real estate, trucking, logistics, financial services, and SaaS stocks are plummeting. Elon Musk predicts empty office towers as AI replaces workers. OtherSide AI's CEO Matt Shumer warns AI could eradicate entry-level white-collar jobs. Algorhythm Holdings released tools enabling 300-400% freight volume increases without new hires.

On 2 Feb 2026, Singapore President Tharman warned AI will disrupt Singapore's jobs sooner and deeper than most countries. On 12 Feb, PM Lawrence Wong unveiled a S$154.7 bln Budget with AI as a national priority, creating a National Artificial Intelligence Council under his chairmanship.

Current reality in Singapore:

  • Fresh graduates struggling to find entry-level roles
  • Professionals with <3 years' experience increasingly replaceable
  • Even recruiters questioning their own job security as AI automates hiring

Singapore leads economically and technologically. If AI already pressures their jobs, where does that leave Malaysia?

Malaysia's AI readiness across education, workforce reskilling, and employer adaptation lags far behind. Students train for roles that won't exist at graduation. Parents, teachers, and students remain unaware of shifting career pathways.
